ZOZOFIT user Adam Aslakson realized he needed to make a change after going on a cruise with his wife and two children. Here's his weight loss story.

Adam had previously attempted to lose weight and keep it off, but this time he knew he needed to change his approach. In his prior journey, he struggled with maintaining weight loss after increased stress levels and having kids.

This time, he started with a strict diet to kickstart weight loss. While this phase is hard, he finds it necessary to be successful in achieving his weight loss goals.

ZOZOFIT user Adam Aslakson realized he needed to make a change after going on a cruise with his wife and two children, ages nine and six at the time.

“I was about 410-415 pounds. On the cruise, my kids wanted to be super active and we’re running around beaches and they’re doing zip lines and water slides,” he said. “That was a wake up call for me. There were just things I couldn’t do and I didn’t like that. I didn’t like that my fitness level and my health was a reason that my kids couldn’t experience things with their dad they wanted to experience. That was my motivation to start.”

Sometimes a reason to start is all someone needs, especially if that reason impacts making lasting memories.

Since that cruise, Adam has made significant changes in his life to lose weight and keep it off, hoping to improve his quality of life and spend more time being active with his children.

Retooling His Weight Loss Journey

Adam had previously attempted to lose weight and keep it off, but this time he knew he needed to change his approach. In his prior journey, he struggled with maintaining weight loss after increased stress levels and having kids.

This time, he started with a strict diet to kickstart weight loss. While this phase is hard, he finds it necessary to be successful in achieving his weight loss goals.

As time goes on, Adam has moved away from counting calories and instead focused on consistency.

“I eat the same thing for breakfast. I eat the same thing for lunch, and then for dinner it typically changes because we’re doing something with the family and it’s about the whole family choosing and making healthier choices of what to eat for dinner,” he said.

Throughout the journey his goal is to get to the point where he doesn’t have to count calories for he eats because he will be in a workable rhythm. Finding sustainability in a diet is the best way to move forward with keeping weight off after weight loss.

While Adam’s primary focus in weight loss was diet, he also kept an appropriate activity level. For him, exercise wasn’t the focus of his weight loss plan, but he did make time to include movement every day like going on walks, playing with his kids, and choosing active activities instead of sedentary activities.

His hard work and dedication has paid off. Adam is down 160 pounds.

The Need to See Change: Using ZOZOFIT

This round of weight loss was not Adam’s first. He had previously followed the keto diet to lose weight, but wanted to ensure that this time around his plan was sustainable — and he would be able to stay motivated.

A common misconception states that weight loss is a linear journey, but it’s not. Any individual on a weight loss journey will go through stages where they don’t see the scale change. This can lead to frustration.

“You hit these cycles where you’re eating literally the same thing you ate the week before, but you’re not actually seeing the scale change at all… One of the things I wish I had done last time was to have a way to measure myself… to see inches come off or even fractions of inches.”

So, instead of relying on just the scale to monitor his progress, Adam turned to ZOZOFIT so he could quickly take measurements of his whole body and also see his body fat percentage. He completes a scan using ZOZOFIT once a month.

“There were months where the pounds just flew off and there were times where it didn’t feel like they were, but with the measurements, I was able to see the inches coming,” he said.

Having multiple ways to track progress makes a big difference. Throughout his journey, Adam saw his waist and chest get smaller even when the scale didn’t change, allowing him to stay motivated and continue on toward his goal.

With ZOZOFIT, Adam used the ColorMetric and Side-by-Side comparison features to visually see the improvements he’s made over time.

“When you’re losing weight, you live with yourself every day… Good things are happening and you can see that, but it’s difficult to really understand how big of a change it’s been from the very beginning.”

With ZOZOFIT, Adam can look back to the beginning of his weight loss journey and see a 3D mesh of his body then, compared with his body now.

“Seeing that the body transformation, the inches coming off stayed fairly consistent was incredibly motivating to know that okay, it’s not that you’re not progressing on this journey. It’s not that you’re not moving toward your goal, it’s just that the scale might not change for a variety of reasons. But to actually see that you’re still on that straight and narrow [with ZOZOFIT] was incredibly motivating.”
