Achieving Weight Loss with an Autoimmune Disorder: ZOZOFIT User Emma Roberts
As a person with an autoimmune disorder, health and reducing inflammation is central to ZOZOFIT user Emma Robert’s (not that one!) approach to life. She has ankylosing spondylitis, a type of arthritis affecting joints in the spine and the joints where the spine and pelvis meet. Often, this condition leads to back pain and other chronic issues.
Life with an autoimmune disorder is difficult, especially because the effectiveness of treatments can vary between patients. In addition, Emma’s fitness has fluctuated since she has been diagnosed with the condition.
In order to alleviate some of her symptoms, Emma’s rheumatologist suggested she try a GLP-1 medication.
“My rheumatologist is very allopathic and naturopathic, so he does holistic medicine and is willing to think outside the box, which is great because when you have an unusual autoimmune condition a lot of things just don’t work for you,” Emma said.
“He said that a lot of people going on this medication were showing remission for their autoimmune conditions.”
Freedom from the Scale with ZOZOFIT
Emma’s rheumatologist referred her to an obesity specialist to manage her care in regards to the GLP-1 medication.
“That was the worst because I went into the appointment knowing I’m as fit as I can be, that I can walk and hike and climb up mountains and carry heavy things, all of that, but I’m 250 pounds… and doctors always treat the weight before they treat anything else.”
Even though Emma has always been very fitness-minded, she has not been weight focused. At 5’11”, she struggled with unhealthy mindsets and her size when she was younger. Since then, she has not had a good relationship with the scale, and finds that due to her autoimmune disorder, the scale often doesn’t reflect back a picture of her health.
However, when she started working with the obesity specialist she needed a way to track her weight, to ensure that the weight loss is controlled and healthy. Because she isn’t comfortable with the scale and its inaccuracies, she didn’t say yes to starting the GLP-1 medication.
A few months later, though, she saw an ad for ZOZOFIT. The obesity specialist agreed that Emma could use ZOZOFIT to track her progress.
“ZOZOFIT was the first tool that allowed me to really monitor my body’s shape and size in a healthy way that doesn’t mess with my head,” said Emma.
“Using the suit has given me a different perspective. It’s interesting to see how much I was doing everything right before, but my body didn’t look right and doctors are always focused on weight.”
Since beginning the GLP-1 medication, Emma has lost 84 pounds, even though she didn’t think it would be possible. She’s still doing all the things she’s loved to do for years, but with the help of the GLP-1 medication and ZOZOFIT has been able to watch her body shift and change over time.
ZOZOFIT Your Way Into a New Wardrobe
Since losing weight, Emma has had to rebuild her wardrobe. As anyone knows shopping for clothes is incredibly difficult, especially for women’s clothing where sizes are not standardized.
Since she has used ZOZOFIT to track her weight loss progress, Emma always has access to her measurements. This makes online shopping much easier.
“I have not returned anything so far, as long as the size charts are right.”
This has made a huge difference — and it also speaks to Emma’s comfort using body measurements rather than the scale.
“[Measurements] are just data… I need to know what size my hips are when I buy clothes. I don’t care about the measurements.”
Life After Weight Loss
Now, Emma is using the suit to help guide her body recomposition.
“I’ve stopped losing weight because my body is where it wants to be.”
She said that focusing on building muscle has been fun and she looks forward to continuing the journey.
“For so many years, in order to be okay with how I looked, I had to disconnect from how other people thought I should look,” she said.
She’s also sharing ZOZOFIT with other individuals in the GLP-1 community. Because weight loss is a long process, people trying to lose weight often experience plateaus where they stop losing weight and seeing changes on the scale. In a Facebook for people taking GLP-1 medications, she has shared ZOZOFIT with many of those struggling to see results on the scale.
“My favorite thing to do is pop in a picture of a scan of two weeks where my weight doesn’t move, but [you can] look at the difference in inches.”
Understanding that the body can change — for the better — without seeing progress on the scale is so important. Many people don’t realize that something like ZOZOFIT’s 3D body scanning technology could make such a huge difference in their weight loss journey.
“‘It’s so easy to get demotivated when something isn’t working. I’ve seen that a lot in the GLP-1 community, and I’ve done a ton to share ZOZOFIT because this tool has helped me. I haven’t felt a lack of motivation. I haven’t worried about anything else.”
