Jorge Martinez's Journey: Using ZOZOFIT to Spark Motivation for a Six Week Health and Wellness Challenge
ZOZOFIT user Jorge Martinez embarked on a six week challenge to improve his health and wellbeing using ZOZOFIT to track his progress along the way. Jumping in headfirst to fitness, he worked with a personal trainer and vlogged about his experience so other individuals interested in starting their fitness journeys can see what it’s like — and be motivated to get started.
“I’ve seen some friends start having to deal with health issues. They were diagnosed with diabetes or they got high blood pressure,” he said. “That also runs in my family so I wanted this to be a preventative thing and also just have a lifestyle change, too.”
Many individuals tackle weight loss to prevent chronic or hereditary issues. However, weight loss journeys can feel incredibly isolating. In sharing his six-week journey with his viewers, Jorge shows just how important it is to get started, no matter where you are.
Getting Started with the Six Week Challenge
“I just wanted to see how much I could change within six weeks and figure out what’s a realistic and healthy approach,” Jorge said. “I did not want to do anything like a crash diet.”
Before he started the challenge, he reached out to his friend Nani, who owns a gym in Dallas, TX. Jorge worked with Nani throughout his six week challenge. As a personal trainer, Nani provided Jorge with invaluable resources like custom workout routines, nutrition suggestions, and how to ensure Jorge’s six week challenge translates to a healthy, sustainable, and long-lasting lifestyle change.
Start with ZOZOFIT
From the start, Jorge knew he wanted to use ZOZOFIT to track his progress.
“Having the ZOZOFIT scans gives you a little bit more nuance and smaller changes that you would see. It’s a great visual using the app and ZOZOFIT to see a visual of your changes. Sometimes as you’re working out, you don’t really see the changes or you feel like the changes come slowly.”
In his first video, Jorge explains the six week challenge and also shares his initial ZOZOFIT scans. While ZOZOFIT takes accurate number measurements, there’s also a visual way to measure progress: ColorMetric. Jorge tuned into ColorMetric as an easy way to see his transformations at a glance.
By using ZOZOFIT to document his progress, Jorge knew he would have accurate progress measurements and be able to see how his hard work paid off.
Pursuing Full Body Health & Overcoming Challenges
Despite hitting roadblocks along the way, Jorge completed his six week challenge and saw changes in himself. He worked with Nani to develop efficient and effective exercise routines and began the process of thinking about how to optimize his food and nutrition for his fitness journey.
Despite falling ill during week four, Jorge was able to push through and keep going in a show of dedication to his health.
“One of the biggest things I was trying to work towards… was figuring out a way to make a change so I can implement all the things I did for six weeks into a daily routine.”
Creating New Fitness Routines
Throughout the challenge, personal trainer Nani offered Jorge his expertise on how to create a sustainable plan. Jorge began exercising every day.
During his vlogs, Jorge checked in with Nani about how to prepare for the upcoming week and what changes to make, which shows just how helpful it is to have a supportive coach, personal trainer, or accountability partner when taking on something as big as full body health.
Jorge focused on weight training, but also added in running at the recommendation of Nani. This meant he could often see the changes in himself, especially in muscle tone, when using the ZOZOFIT app.
Prioritizing Healthy Eating
Changing eating habits is also an important part of Jorge’s plan. One of his main strategies to improve his health was to cut back on carbs utilizing the hacks from the Glucose Goddess by biochemist Jessie Inchauspé.
“I didn’t cut away carbs or sugar completely, but I did eat less of it or eat it towards the end of meals, and those were small things that showed big changes in the long run.”
This allowed Jorge to still enjoy some of his favorite foods — and have some carbs and sugar as a treat — without worrying too much. Dieting boundaries and guidelines like these make improving health more manageable and don’t cause diet crashes, like often happens with fad diets.
Using ZOZOFIT to See the Change
In every video of the series, Jorge talks through his ZOZOFIT scans and changes in body measurements and body fat percentage.
He combined using ZOZOFIT and a smart scale to compare data and see how much he has improved his body composition. He found that doing the six week challenge gave him positive results.
“With ZOZOFIT, I could notice where there were changes like muscle mass versus fat loss. Sometimes the weight would stay the same, but it’d be more of a gain in muscle. [ZOZOFIT] shows me that the changes in weight don’t always have to do with fat.”
On average, Jorge lost about two pounds per week throughout the challenge.
He found, too, that even on weeks where his weight increased or stayed the same — like during the final week — he still lost inches in his core, which is one of the most important places to lose weight because a lower waist-to-hip ratio indicates better long-term health.
“I do find ZOZOFIT motivating,” he said.
“Even if you go into it without a clear goal, just having the scans weekly, it gives you small goals to hit every week.”
After the Six Week Challenge: What’s Next?
Now that he’s finished with his six week challenge, Jorge wants to keep the momentum and continue to make improvements.
One thing on his list to tackle is time management. He wants to plan and make time for his workouts everyday.
“In the evenings I would have other things, like editing videos for the vlogs, so sometimes I end up sleeping pretty late,” he said.
Improving time management will help him be consistent with other workouts Nani suggested, like fasted runs. This aligns with another one of Jorge’s goals which is to improve his endurance and stamina so he can sustain long periods of running without stopping.
Overall, though, he feels inspired to keep going because of the success of his six week challenge.
“I got to the point where all the changes that were made and all the workouts that I learned or improved on, I could just keep implementing,” he said.
“I felt that whenever I was working out on my own, I was probably one or two workouts away from seeing more results and, of course, the diet plays a big part, so once you change your diet and add just those two extra exercises, you start seeing big changes really quickly.”
