We recently sat down to catch up with pro golfer Kaito Onishi, who was celebrating a fresh victory at the UNC Health Championship (which is part of the Korn Ferry Tour) in early June.

Onishi has been an avid user of ZOZOFIT over the last several months as he’s been using the app to monitor his fitness and ensure that he is in top shape for his golf career.

“Since I’m always moving and always on the road, my body does change a lot,” he said. Traveling, especially through different climates, takes a toll on the body. One week, Onishi might be in the hot and humid South, and the next, he might be in more temperate weather.

“After a week I can assess how my body’s doing and see how it’s been affected [by the traveling]. Before the next tournament starts I’ll try to fill myself up. Whether I lost a lot of body fat or something else, I can change my meal plan to manage all those small things. ZOZOFIT has been helping me a lot.”

Using ZOZOFIT to Stay on Track With Healthy Eating

Unfortunately, Onishi suffered from food poisoning in late Spring, but was able to spring back with a health-minded focus using ZOZOFIT.

“I think I lost six or seven pounds in the course of one tournament week. I was playing every day for five straight days while I was feeling under the weather.”

Any athlete knows that staying fueled is incredibly important to sport, so by being able to see where he lost weight using ZOZOFIT, Onishi has been able to build his body back to where it was before.

Eating well is central to illness recovery, staying fueled, and maintaining good overall health.

“My body changes a lot more than what I imagined. If I spend a week eating really healthy and try to cut down on sugars, focus on working out, and having a good routine, it shows on the scan that I’ve improved,” he said.

It can seem counterintuitive that healthy eating leads to an improved body composition, but understanding how the body uses foods like carbohydrates, proteins, and fats assists in making the right changes for your overall health.

“I learned to have a really good diet and have good nutrition in addition to working out. But I didn’t realize how important the food you put in your body [is], how much more important it is than the workout itself.”

Exercise is Still Important to Overall Health

Onishi still makes working out a priority. Using ZOZOFIT scans, he can target specific parts of his body where he needs to build strength.

“Actually spending more time in the gym doing more cardio let me see the visual image of myself transform, and that was pretty cool. I started focusing on body fat, which was a little higher than where I wanted it to be, and as I spent more time in the gym, the [body fat percentage] got smaller and other parts of my body got bigger,” he said.

Targeting workouts to specific parts of the body is a great way to improve body composition, and is especially important for athletes like Onishi who need to ensure that the muscles he needs are as strong as can be.

By scanning every two weeks, Onishi can accurately monitor his progress and make changes to his diet or workout routine as necessary.

ZOZOFIT Makes Tracking Your Fitness Easy

Athletes and avid travelers alike can make great use of ZOZOFIT’s portability. Whether you have the ZOZOSUIT or you use the suit-free scan options, ZOZOFIT’s technology comes with you anywhere.

“That’s what I think is the nicest and greatest part of ZOZOFIT. I could just be in a hotel room and scan it. It takes less than a minute to [complete the scan],” Onishi said.

“You can always see it on your phone. It’s the most convenient and accurate way of measuring.”

More traditional body measuring tools, like the scale, are clunky, difficult to travel with, and aren’t nearly as accurate as the 3D body scanning technology offered by ZOZOFIT.

Consistent Body Equals Consistent Performance

For Onishi, ZOZOFIT is the best way to measure the consistency in his body so he knows that he will be ready to perform at the highest level in his golf tournaments.

“Before you’re using a golf club, you need to have the right body and to produce consistent performance, your body needs to be consistent.”

“[ZOZOFIT] allows you to understand more about yourself and what kind of body produces the best performance… It can only improve you as a human, your performance, and [help you reach] the goals you want to achieve.”
