How to Stay Motivated to Achieve Your 2023 New Year Resolutions
It’s been a little over a month since you set your New Year Resolutions and while you may be feeling like you are exactly on track to make 2023 your best year for fitness, you may also feel overwhelmed about your fitness goals. ZOZOFIT can help.
Staying motivated to achieve your 2023 New Year Resolutions can be difficult because often when we set our resolutions, we’re dreaming big and bite off more than we can chew. Your fitness goals might get derailed by the whims of the universe whether you pledged to workout six days a week when your pre-new year fitness routine had you going once a week, you decided to start running and then were interrupted by a life event, or you meant to use your ZOZOSUIT to take body measurements every other week and just haven’t.
Sometimes it’s just sheer unmotivation — getting to that yoga class takes effort. Wherever you’re at with your goals, though, you have the potential to find your fitness motivation again.
Return to & rethink your resolutions
The first thing you should do is take the time to sit down and reevaluate your 2023 New Year Resolutions. Like we said earlier, sometimes we don’t think about scope, our own ability, or the time we have to dedicate to our goals.
For example, if you decided that your fitness resolution was to run a marathon in December, but you’ve never even run a 5k then you might be jumping the gun. To “revise” your resolution, consider making your goal to run a few 5ks throughout the year and try to improve your overall time in each one.
Similarly, if you want to decrease your body fat percentage by 5% each week using measurements from ZOZOFIT, you may have unrealistic expectations for yourself and your body.
Often, setting unattainable goals can lead to frustration, sometimes resulting in just giving up altogether. One of the best ways you can revise your goals is to reframe your fitness resolution as a SMART goal. Using this framework, you’ll be on your way to achieving your goals.
Sign up for a race or fitness event
Maybe you decided to ride your bike twice a week, but it’s starting to feel monotonous. Or perhaps your time lifting weights at the gym is fulfilling your need for external motivation.
You can curb these feelings by signing up for a race or fitness event! Often having something to work toward can make it much easier to get out of bed and hit the gym or go on that 20-mile bike ride. Also, most races and events have entrance fees, so it’d be wasted money if you signed up and didn’t go.
If you do choose to go this route to achieve your 2023 New Year Resolutions, be mindful about choosing an event that will challenge you, but not be too hard. Like in the section above — don’t register for a marathon if you’ve never run a 5k. There will always be room to build on your ability later and often first events serve as a great baseline to see your progress over time.
Start tracking data & log your progress
Tracking fitness data can go a long way in motivating you to achieve your fitness goals, especially since this is the best way to see your progress over time. There are so many different tracking apps and tracking tech to choose from, so you’ll just want to find something that fits your needs.
Regardless of what your goals are, using ZOZOFIT’s 3D body scanning technology to track your body measurements will be beneficial. Being able to see the changes in your body (without the use of a scale, which can be hard for some folks), will motivate you to keep going and help you see the impact of your fitness.
You can also track running/biking/swimming distances, workouts completed, heart rate, and steps completed. Just find what works for you and check back on your data often to see how you’re doing!
Set fitness reminders & schedule fitness time
Have trouble making the time (or remembering) to do your workouts or track body measurements? Setting fitness reminders — which you can do in many fitness tracking apps — will let you know when it’s time to get moving. The ZOZOFIT app has the ability to set reminders to remember to take measurements and other apps may ping you when it’s time to get your steps in or if you’re behind in logging your weekly workouts.
If you have a packed schedule, you might try scheduling in your fitness time each day. For some this may take moving some things around, but once it’s scheduled in your calendar it will be a priority.
When you schedule in dedicated time to achieve your 2023 New Year Resolutions, then you’re making a pact with yourself that this is important. It’s hard to look at the hour you reserved for your workout and just decide to skip it. You made that time for yourself — use it!
Pro tip: When you schedule in fitness time, schedule in all the time you need before and after your workout, too. This includes drive time, equipment set-up, changing clothes, showering, etc. By accurately reflecting the time on your calendar, you’ll be less likely to find yourself stressed at your workout taking longer than planned.
Find a fitness buddy
Sometimes you just need someone else to be there with you when you’re doing your workouts. Finding a fitness buddy, group class, or personal trainer can motivate you to achieve your fitness resolutions. You can even share your progress with your fitness buddy through the ZOZOFIT app, too.
For one, there’s an accountability aspect. If you plan to go on a run with your friend every Monday and Thursday, you won’t want to cancel on them. They dedicated that time to be with you (and you with them) — and having something on the books can make all the difference.
Don’t have a fitness friend? Try group classes, group training programs, or even a personal trainer. With each of these, you’ll be, again, making a commitment to be there, but also have some external motivation. Attending group classes and training programs can be especially rewarding because you’re sure to improve your fitness and may make some friends along the way!
Reward yourself!
Reward yourself for a job well done. This seems like such simple advice, but it is so important to celebrate your wins and successes, and be proud of yourself for what you have achieved.
Successfully decreased your body fat percentage as shown in ZOZOFIT? It’s time to buy that new yoga mat or new pair of leggings you’ve been wanting. Completed your first triathlon? Splurge on a nice dinner with a few loved ones to celebrate — and gain back some of those calories you’ve burned.
Your reward can be anything that motivates you! Just make sure that you set goals or milestones while planning rewards (giving yourself a reward every time you go on a run degears the point), and that your gifts to yourself are actually motivating (don’t opt for a new set of weights when you’d prefer to finally schedule that coaching session).
These tips should make you motivated to achieve your 2023 New Year Resolutions. Choose what will work best for you and get moving!
