Getting Back into Fitness: Gary Buchanan’s Experience with ZOZOFIT in his 40s
It’s never too late to take control of your personal fitness. After his 41st birthday, ZOZOFIT user Gary Buchanan realized it was time to focus on his health.
“I probably have about a decade left of my life that I need to get my body back in shape,” he said.
Gary originally learned about ZOZOFIT through an online article about fitness and tech. An avid tech fan, he knew that ZOZOFIT was something that could help him make the changes he needs to prioritize his well-being as he enters the next stage of his life.
Find Fitness Motivation with ZOZOFIT
One thing that ZOZOFIT users love about the ZOZOSUIT and ZOZO’s 3D body scanning technology is that it shows a real depiction of the body by leveraging body measurements rather than weight.
“You just see where your body is,” Gary said, when discussing the impact ZOZOFIT has had on his motivation. “Sometimes you look in the mirror and think, ‘I’m not that bad, I look better than I think,’ and then looking at that 3D model, it just hit me…I’ve got some work to do.”
The wake-up call can be a great motivator to develop a new fitness routine or pick back up on a fitness journey. For Gary, it took a couple of months to get back into his routine due to work and other factors of life, but he continued to do the scans.
Then, when he was ready, he just started walking — and saw results after just a couple of weeks. Although walking often gets discounted because it isn’t considered an “intense” workout, it is just as capable of producing satisfying results.
“I saw a little measurable difference in my size…it’s kind of neat being able to see where I shrunk down…I was seeing some changes and so that just…inspired me to take it up another notch.”
The hardest part of any fitness journey is developing that routine, but it’s much easier to move forward and stay motivated when you can see results.
In order to not overwhelm himself — and just focus on getting started — Gary started with 20-minute gym sessions. Starting slow made all the difference in his experience.
Sticking With It: Measuring Progress in the ZOZOFIT App
Gary began scanning every couple of weeks, which is also what ZOZOFIT recommends, to see results. Taking scans too close together can make it difficult to see changes, because the body’s fluctuations day-to-day, and even week-to-week, are often not big enough to stick out to the mind.
The right strategy helped Gary see results and stay motivated in the long run, especially in comparison to using a scale.
“If I looked at the scale, I maybe lost a couple of pounds, and that’s fine. But then actually seeing it shrink everywhere, I’m like, wait a minute, that is really me.”
Gary saw these big improvements continue to cascade, which only increased his motivation to work on his fitness. Now, Gary is going to the gym and exercising several times a week, not just to see the differences in ZOZOFIT, but also because it’s better for his overall health.
The app itself has a number of features that make it easier for users to track progress, including Color Metric, which shows changes in the body as different colors for an at-a-glance way to track progress, and side-by-side comparisons.
The side-by-side, especially, has been beneficial to Gary.
“It actually shows a quick glance between those two or three weeks…it instantly shows me the change in size.”
Often, numbers — like on the scale — are hard for us to conceptualize. Instead, by looking at the physical changes in our body scans, the results feel more tangible.
How Fitness Results Impact the Fitness Journey
ZOZOFIT and tracking body measurements continues to help Gary improve his own life and health. With each change, he sets new goals and reframes his mindset around fitness — especially getting away from the scale as a tool to measure health.
Instead, Gary has been looking at body fat percentage, as calculated by ZOZOFIT, and aims to decrease body fat percentage in his ZOZOFIT scans.
“I look at myself every day. My clothes are fitting a little differently…It’s not so much about weight. It’s about using these metrics to see how I am doing and am I improving and if I’m not in certain areas where I need to focus.”
ZOZOFIT helps its users create a lifelong relationship with their fitness and helps them understand their own body better.
“I’ve got a long journey to go. It’s not like I’m some fit young kid. [ZOZOFIT]’s got a lot that it can still show [me].”
